The summer is almost over — and the countdown is real! 😄 Travelers are heading home, backpacks are about to make their grand return, and adults everywhere are bracing for that familiar reality: work, school, drop-offs, pickups… Back-to-school mode is loading!
But before you switch gears — let's celebrate first! To thank everyone for their wonderful support of the WECAN community, and to give Summer 2026 the delicious, joyful send-off it deserves, WECAN has received approval from the Town of Wellesley to host this special picnic at beautiful Morses Pond.
A pond, a beach, open lawns, great food, and a crowd of old friends and new neighbors waiting to meet you. In short: bring your family, bring your food, bring your good mood — and let's squeeze every last drop of joy out of this summer! 😄
🍲 Your Ticket In? Your Best Dish!
The theme of this picnic is simple: neighbors sharing, a hundred families cooking! Every family is warmly invited to bring at least one generous dish to share — Chinese, Western, hometown favorites, secret family recipes, cold dishes, hot dishes, desserts, fruit… all welcome!
Can't cook? No worries at all. 😂 Families who prefer not to bring food are welcome to make a voluntary donation to support WECAN community activities. All activities are free to attend. Our philosophy is simple: some people bring food, some bring energy, some bring laughter — and everyone ends up in the group photo. 📸
🏆 The 1st WECAN Neighborhood Food Influencer Contest
You know the type — someone posts "just threw together a few dishes today…" and the photo shows eight courses and a soup. 😂 Well, this is your moment to stop hiding! All participating families are invited to taste and vote for their favorites. Whose dish will win over the neighborhood?
🥇 1st Place 🥈 2nd Place 🥉 3rd Place — all three winners receive prizes! So please, no more modesty. It's time to let your neighbors know that a truly great chef has been living right next door all along. 👨🍳👩🍳
🔥 WECAN Community BBQ
In addition to all the dishes families bring, WECAN will fire up a community BBQ! Basic grilling ingredients will be provided by WECAN, and you're welcome to bring additional items to throw on the grill. Once the smoke starts rising and the aroma fills the air… we can't promise you'll stick to whatever diet plan you had going. 😄
🏐 Worked Up an Appetite? Then Work It Off!
To help everyone make the most of all that food, we've lined up a full afternoon of family activities:
- 🏐 Volleyball — jump right in after lunch and see who's still got game!
- 🎯 Group games — adults and kids together; winning is optional, fun is mandatory.
- 🏆 Food Contest Awards — find out who takes home the title of "WECAN Neighborhood Kitchen Champion"!
Of course, if you'd rather skip the games entirely, that's perfectly fine too. Find a cozy spot, spread out your blanket, take in the view of the pond and beach, catch up with old friends, meet a few new neighbors, and watch the kids run wild — that's a beautiful afternoon all on its own.

Because a truly warm community is more than just people living in the same town. It's neighbors who wave hello when they pass by. Kids who find playmates. New families who feel at home quickly. People who know that when they need help, someone nearby will show up. And when something is worth celebrating, there's always someone to celebrate with.
Sometimes, building that kind of connection doesn't take much. Maybe just a picnic blanket, a home-cooked dish, a few new friends, and an afternoon full of laughter. That's the community WECAN hopes to create.
